Finding Glee in “Glee!”

OK, I admit it, like many of you I love the TV show, “Glee!” I love the music, the stories, the ironies, and definitely Jane Lynch, as Sue Sylvester, who is the most amazing character actress around.

Why do I love it so? Well, it is about…

You Make Your Own Breaks on the Way to Your Dreams

Then there were those who weren’t so bad, but they didn’t get the golden ticket. These people might actually have a shot at a career in music but, for whatever reason, did not pass the judges’ muster.

It is the last group that fascinates me. Some of them were so upset. Some even begged the judges for another chance, because this competition was their only chance to make it. They knew they were meant to be in the music business and if only they could participate in the competition of American Idol, they could prove that they were worthy of such a career.

Shine like a star, know who you are

I got this month’s tip from a future speaking star! She is an energetic young lady who is one of the most positive people I know. She approaches life with fun and excitement and is great to be around.

When I asked her about this quote, she told me how important it is to know who you are and be that person.

Simple idea, huh?

Champions do what it takes to achieve their dreams!

Are you sleep-deprived from watching the Olympics? I know I am! Watching the best in the world compete in so many different sports and disciplines was incredibly inspiring.

I heard all kinds of stories throughout the Olympics about the routines the athletes went through in order to become the best in the world. Many were up at 5:00 am, working out before and after school or work. Their weekends were spent away from family and friends and many had special diets. Of course, it would be cool to consume 10,000 calories a day like swimmer Michael Phelps and still be in condition to win eight gold medals!

I would probably sink.

Don’t let stress rule your life; silly is more fun!

The truth is I did not understand the value of silly. I gave in to stress and let it control my life, my work, and my relationships.

Thank goodness for my six-year-old daughter has taught me how to be silly again and what is truly important in my life.

Do the best you can do in all that you do

I was a server all through college and even for a couple of years after I graduated. I worked in fine dining environments, up-scale restaurants, and pubs, wearing anything from long-sleeved dress shirts with a tie to a polo shirt and khakis. Everywhere I worked, I wanted to be known as the best server. Not one of the best. THE best.

During my “serving career,” I worked with a lot of people who did just enough to get by. I never understood that. Those same co-workers could never understand why I consistently made more in tips than they did and why customers would request me as their server. I decided that if I was going to be working, I was going to get the most out of it by giving it my all. And the results paid off.

Go the extra mile

A couple of days before Christmas, I was in my garage about to get in my car to go to a meeting. A large overnight delivery service truck pulled up to my neighbor’s house and the driver hopped out with a package. He looked up and waved at me, walked past my neighbor’s car in the driveway, and set the package down next to the garage. He punched in some buttons on his delivery scanner, hopped back in his truck, and drove off.

Did you see what was wrong in this scenario?

Serving during Welcome Week at Cuyahoga Community College

In early September I traveled for six days to make three speaking/training engagements. I started out on September 8 flying to LAX from Atlanta, changed planes, and then on to Boise, ID. From there, I drove…

You can do this!

You can.

You have infinite power and ability that was placed in you the moment you were conceived.

You must choose to make use of those God-given talents and abilities.

Most people don’t, or won’t.

What’s holding you back? Fear of failure? Lack of money? No road map? The moment is not perfect? Get over it!
ACT NOW!!

“The longest journey begins with a single step,” (Lao Tzu, 600 BCE). Take the first step! And then the next one, and then the next, and so forth until you find yourself living a life you love.

The universe is watching… Your soul is yearning… Your dreams are waiting…

“You can do this!”

Think Positively

“That’s it? That’s this week’s tip?”

Yes, and if you get this one right, the rest of your life will be fulfilling and satisfying. Ninety percent of the input to your brain on a daily basis is negative. Only 10% is positive. Much of the negative stuff is put into our heads by ourselves. We look in the mirror in the morning and criticize every blemish and imperfection that we see. No wonder we go off into our day in a bad mood.
If you feed your brain positives on a regular basis, you will be amazed at how it responds. Your brain will be so thrilled to have positive input that it might get your adrenaline flowing. How often do you think about your accomplishments, victories, and just really great days?

Focus on the great moments of your life, how you felt at that time. Remind yourself that if you could do it then, you can do it now. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote about “The Power of Positive Thinking”, Napolean Hill gave us “Think and Grow Rich”, and now we have “Life’s Golden Ticket” from Brendon Burchard that shows us the value of remembering the good moments in our life rather than dwelling on the bad ones.

Start your own book! Write down your accomplishments as they happen. Keep a journal of your successes so that when negativity tries to creep in, you can combat it with your victories.

If you do not believe in yourself, who else is going to? Be your own biggest fan!
